Chinese Yam is highly suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach, those prone to fatigue, chronic cough, or chronic diarrhea.
Dried yam (huai shan/shan yao) is better than fresh at regulating the spleen and stomach and astringing the body, and it is particularly effective in improving qi deficiency and boosting immunity.
Chinese Yam Use Guide
There are two primary methods for preparing dried Chinese Yam:
1. Steaming
- Soak for about 2-4 hours, or overnight
- Drain the water
- Steam for about 15-20 minutes
2. Rice Soup (cooking with porridge)
Add directly to your rice soup while cooking.
After steaming they can be eaten directly or drizzled with honey if you desire.
